Train to Teach

Interested in teaching?

Can you help to unlock and develop the talent in all students by inspiring the next generation to be leaders of tomorrow?

Teaching is truly rewarding, challenging and diverse, with no two students the same, and no two days alike. Teaching is a learning experience, and the journey is life-long. Success is finding a path to enable students to be self-confident and prepared for life in a global landscape.

Learn to teach with us

beckfoot-school-direct-partnership-logo-cropAt Beckfoot, our school motto is Enjoy - Learn - Succeed. Our students are at the heart of all we do, and we want to train teachers who are committed to these values.

The Beckfoot School Direct Partnership is a collaboration between schools in the Beckfoot Trust and Immanuel College, alongside Leeds Trinity and Leeds Beckett University.

For the first time, this year we are recruiting for both Primary and Secondary trainees to start placements in September 2018.

The Beckfoot School Direct Provision

Subjects - The Beckfoot School Direct Partnership offers up to 30 places each year for highly qualified graduates in the following subjects: English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Computer Sciences, Modern Foreign Languages, Religious Studies, Geography, History, Art & Design and Physical Education.

Accredited training – The qualification gained is Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a PGCE qualification from Leeds Trinity or Leeds Beckett Universities. Retaining the academic rigor of postgraduate study carries 60 credits towards a Masters degree.

Hands on experience – From day one trainees are immersed in school life, gaining experience and reflecting on learning. Trainees work with outstanding colleagues in classrooms on placements in different schools, and they experience special school education at Hazelbeck. Extra time can be spent in Hazelbeck, strengthening the trainees awareness of inclusion and the unique skill sets of special school teachers. Trainees very quickly get to know and become part of our school and student communities; ensuring they feel comfortable and confident in this environment.

Individual support and personalised professional development – Trainees are supported from the point of acceptance, and offered opportunities to gain additional school experience. We provide individual mentoring from Beckfoot throughout the year, at placement schools, and from the host University. We provide a weekly Professional Studies program designed to give insights and strategies to tackle issues trainees will face in their training placements and in the first years of their professional lives. This program includes areas of national, local and professional importance; including how children learn, principles of effective planning and teaching, pupil safety and well being and current educational policy.

Excellent future employment opportunities – On successful completion, trainees will be confident, student-centred, reflective teachers, and will hopefully take up a position within Beckfoot Trust.
