Training on the job and through a range of experienced providers

With such a range of roles available we work with experienced training providers that offer the standard of support and qualifications that our apprentices deserve.

Shipley College have been hugely supportive of Beckfoot Trust and school apprentices. Here's what they say about our partnership.

Trust and Shipley Coll

At Beckfoot Trust, in addition to educating pupils, it is also critical that staff receive training and development to ensure the organisation is best placed to meet day to day demands and challenges. Recruiting and training apprentices has been one of the strategies implemented and we at Shipley College value our close working relationship with Beckfoot Trust, a collaboration which has ensured positive benefits and outcomes.

Over the last seven years, Shipley College has recruited eighteen apprentices for the Beckfoot Trust schools in a variety of roles and departments including Accounting, IT Technician, Teaching Assistants, Early Years, Digital Marketing and Business Administration. The College provides high quality expertise and support at each stage - recruitment, training and monitoring progress - which provides a structured but tailored forum for discussion and evaluation.  By employing and training apprentices, Beckfoot Trust has been able to develop staff in a way which promotes the specific skills and qualities needed.

In case you are not aware, apprentices can be 16 years old and there is no upper age limit. The Beckfoot Trust has employed an almost even split, eight apprentices aged under 18 and ten 19+. The initial key factor is to find the right person for each role and Shipley College puts forward suitable candidates for interview which saves on recruitment costs for employers.

The successful apprentices are employed directly by the employer and work for four days a week in their chosen role. This gives the apprentices the opportunity to learn in the workplace and to contribute new ideas too. They then attend  Shipley College for one day a week, meeting with their tutor and other apprentices. This combination enables each apprentice to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become qualified and successful.

Amy, a Digital Marketing apprentice at Beckfoot School made the following comment whilst on the programme " I have always wanted to do an apprenticeship because the "hands-on" learning has helped me gain the confidence I need, whilst building up my knowledge through my Level 3 course. One of the main things I love about my job is the variety of work I do, including working on campaigns or designing leaflets. My apprenticeship has given me the chance to prove myself and it has improved my confidence and skill set which will help me in the future. After i have completed my apprenticeship, I would like to further my career in Digital Marketing." Amy completed her apprenticeship and has now been with the Trust for over 3 years.

Jacqui Porritt, Apprenticeship and Work Experience Manager says "As a local college, we are committed to support the Beckfoot Trust with the recruitment of your apprentices and the delivery of quality training. We will continue to work with you to provide an efficient and effective partnership and ensure your apprentices and colleagues receive any support they need throughout."
