Generating our own Power
Over the last 2 years, Beckfoot Trust has been planning and delivering improvements to its buildings to reduce our carbon footprint, and increase our energy efficiency in line with the commitment to our Environmental Strategy
During half term a major milestone has been reached with the installation and go-live of the first of 5 solar panel schemes at Beckfoot Trust Schools.
Panels were installed at Beckfoot Heaton Primary School and are now delivering green electricity to the school. In the coming weeks panels will be installed and start delivering power at Beckfoot Allerton, Beckfoot Nessfield, Beckfoot Phoenix, and Beckfoot Thornton.
Children will have access to data about the panels to see how much is being generated and what this means in terms of energy not required from the grid, how much money is being saved and what this amount of electricity would be able to do in ways they can relate to.
These works are being completed in partnership with Ameresco with support from the WYCA’s Energy Accelerator scheme.
The full programme includes:
- LED lighting upgrades and improved lighting controls;
- Boiler replacement;
- Optimisation of systems and controls;
- Hot water system upgrades;
- Roof and cavity wall insulation;
- Replacement of old windows with new energy efficient units
